Ethan is the protagonist and player character of Life in Woodchester. Good-natured, perceptive, and quietly caring, he's the emotional glue of a household still recovering from divorce โ and the lens through which the entire story is told.
Configurable
Ethan's name and how the household refers to him are player-configurable. "Ethan" is the default used throughout this wiki.
Overview¶
Ethan recently went through a breakup with his ex-girlfriend Julia and lives under Janice's roof alongside Tara and Lily. He goes out of his way to help the people around him โ doing laundry unasked, helping Tara find work, reconnecting with Lily through play, and supporting Janice when she's overwhelmed. Every main route grows out of these everyday kindnesses.
Personality¶
- Good-natured and caring. A chronic helper who shows up for people even when it's inconvenient.
- Perceptive. He reads the people around him well โ and notices what's left unsaid.
- Self-deprecating and witty. His humor is gentle and a little dorky.
- A people-pleaser. His main flaw: he struggles to set boundaries, and wrestles with guilt over his own feelings.
Voice¶
Ethan adapts his tone to whoever he's with โ gentler with Lily, more sarcastic with Tara, warmer with Janice. His inner monologue is often more honest (and funnier) than what he actually says out loud, and the gap between the two is a recurring source of comedy: "WHOA, HIT THE BRAKES THERE, CHAMP."
Relationships¶
Ethan is at the center of every storyline โ see the main cast for the five romance routes (Janice, Tara, Lily, Molly, Cass) and the side stories. His closest friends are Kaleb and Joe.
